THE PROCESSING OF C8-C9 FRACTION WITH OBTAINING POLYMERIC PRODUCT - STYROMAL
C8-C9 fraction with a boiling point of 120 to 200 °С contains significant amounts of styrene and alpha-methylstyrene, which, upon thermal interaction with maleic anhydride, form a polymer product, which is called styromal.
Styromal
Styromal is a white or cream colored powder and is used as a thickener, dispersant and stabilizer of suspension polymerization of vinyl chloride, emulsifier and latex stabilizer, film former in the production of varnishes and paints, as a flocculant in the purification of industrial and wastewater, as casting material with high deformation heat resistance in the composition of drilling fluids and cement compositions, etc.
Styromal has a high thermal stability, transparency, can be easily modified by highly reactive anhydride groups to produce new useful materials.
