Cetane-raising additives for diesel fuel
Today, the demand for high-quality diesel fuels is growing worldwide due to the increase in the production of diesel cars.
The production of diesel fuel, that meets high European quality standards is impossible without additives of various functional purposes: anti-wear, cetane-raising, depressant.
The most important are cetane-raising additives, that improve the flammability of diesel fuel. For modern diesel engines a fuel with a cetane number of 47-50 with a tendency to increase to 55 is preferred. Increasing the cetane number reduces the ignition delay period and the rigidity of the engine, improves starting characteristics at low temperature and reduces carbon formation.
Factories that producing diesel fuel according to European standards purchase cetane-raising additives mainly abroad. The most famous additives are Kerobrizol (Basf), Hitec 4103W (Afton Chemical Corporation), RV 100 (Total) ect.
At the moment, the urgent task In Russia is to develop our own production for the import substitution of foreign goods due to their high cost and lack of Russian market.
The main active component of cetane-raising additives are alkyl nitrates, mainly 2-ethylhexyl nitrate.
We are developed a technology for the production of analogues of 2-ethylhexyl nitrate based on some alcohol-containing by-products of Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat LLC (Bottom residues of butyl alcohols distillation TU RUS 2421-101-05766575-200; Heavy product of 2-ethylhexanol distillation TU RUS 2421-120-05766575-2005) and Ufa Alcohol Plant (Fusel Oil RUS GOST 17071-91).
The essence of the development is that not one 2-ethylhexanol is nitrated, but a mixture of alcohols contained in the fractions isolated from the above by-products. The impurities they contain: acetals, dioxanes, esters of mono- and dibasic alcohols are not ballast, but a component that improves the properties of diesel fuel.
